Although
I’m writing this bio for the Catalyst, I’m doing so in the third person
because one never knows when your obituary will come in handy.
Dennis Hinkamp grew up in St. Louis and graduated with a Master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri – Columbia, that fancies itself as one of the best, and then things went tragically wrong. He moved to Utah
in 1980 and has been here ever since. He wrote a consumer information
column for the Salt Lake Tribune for 13 years. In 1989 he won the Utah
Laugh-off which led to a brief career performing stand up comedy to
drunken despots throughout the intermountain west. He also played a lot
of ultimate Frisbee, soccer and ran marathons which led to one knee and
two foot surgeries but he also made a lot of great friends along the
way. He takes credit for introducing John and Greta to Burning Man for
which he is at least partially sorry. If you Google his name you will
find all sorts of embarrassing photos and stories.
Dennis works as a communications specialist for Utah State University Extension in Logan and is an occasional contributor to Writers on the Range for High Country News.
