Environews: Utah ozone non-attainment areas

By Amy Brunvand

Based on an analysis by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Governor Gary Herbert has identified areas of Utah that fail to meet ozone pollution standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Ozone causes health risks to the heart and lungs. Non-attainment areas are Salt Lake and Davis counties and portions of Weber, Tooele, Utah, Uinta and Duchesne counties. The State of Utah is required to submit plans for reducing ozone in non-attainment areas.
