Environews: Yellowstone Bison update

Screen Shot 2016 02 09 at 11.46.03 AMFor many years the State of Montana has followed an abhorrent policy of killing bison that walk out of Yellowstone National Park, effectively preventing wild bison from reinhabiting their historic range.

The good news is, in January Mon­tana’s Governor Steve Bullock signed an agreement to allow a few hundred Yellowstone bison to roam into the Gallatin National Forest; the bad news is, Montana still plans to slaughter up to 900 bison if they cross Park boundaries this winter.

The irresponsible bison management policy in Montana is largely due to pressure from ranchers with public lands grazing leases.
