The Aquarium Age: June 19-25

By Ralfee Finn

It’s a bumpy ride this week. The planets are in transition, and so are we. And while I don’t and won’t blame the stars for cranky attitudes, as most of us know, shifts—emotional, psychological, spiritual, or physical—are often uncomfortable, especially if you’re feeling tired, overworked, stretched too thin, or just downright suspicious of what’s going to happen next.

Anticipate resistance, yours or others’, as many of us try figure out how to handle these jarring rhythms of change. Just be aware, the pushback may simply be a reflexive action rather than a real refusal to cooperate. Also be prepared to feel out of sorts with no plausible explanation for your malaise. Of course, it’s not all bad news—plenty of people are thriving even in the midst of the current state of transformational intensity, particularly those who are living from the inside out, making peace with what is, even if that means breathing through moments of profound uncertainty, trusting that the eventual outcome will be positive.

The first obstacle to a smooth flow is the second Mercury Retrograde phase of 2013, which begins on June 26 and lasts until July 20. For those unfamiliar with Mercury Retrograde, it’s a period of time when Mercury, from Earth’s perspective, appears to be moving backwards. Of course, we know this is impossible, but from an astrological perspective, during Mercury Retrograde, all things within Mercury’s vast domain, which includes all things related to communication and travel, seem to have a life of their own. From mail of every variety to planes to trains to automobiles to computers to cell phones—you name the device or method of transportation and something is sure to go wrong. Back up your computers, now. Don’t wait until tomorrow; the three days before and after this phase are part of the retro-zone, so don’t procrastinate. And don’t be surprised if all week long, nothing seems to move as it “should.” Patience is the best position to assume during a retrograde.

The Sun enters the Sign of Cancer on June 21, marking the start of a new season. And on July 25, right after that transition and just prior to Mercury Retrograde, Jupiter changes Signs, moving from Gemini to Cancer. Jupiter symbolizes expansion, abundance, and enthusiasm, and its transit through Gemini, the Sign of communication and information, placed the astral emphasis on data of every dimension. Now, as it moves into Cancer, the emphasis shifts away from facts and figures to feelings. Expect to feel slightly disconcerted as the locus of perception shifts. Jupiter’s journey through Cancer will stir a wide range of responses to the issues of safety and security, as well as to the ties that bind us to family as well as home.

As Jupiter enters Cancer, it moves into a trine with Saturn and Neptune, forming a Grand Trine in Water that will culminate on July 17. During the next several weeks, we will feel the swell of this positive configuration as it unites the personal concerns, through Jupiter, to the concerns of the many, through Saturn, in Scorpio, to the transpersonal, through Neptune, in Pisces. And while the start of this new cycle might take some getting used to, this is a powerful tide for transformation that even the delays and detours of Mercury Retrograde cannot put asunder. Set an intention to ride it well, and when possible, help your fellow travelers to do the same.
