Uranus goes retrograde today, July 17, and its “course correction” strikes a strong undertone—but not because its retrograde motion slows anything down. Uranus symbolizes sudden shifts and thunderbolts of realization, and when it “changes direction,” abrupt shifts in perspective prevail, especially where we may have become complacent about a stagnant situation or complicit in maintaining the status quo. Don’t be surprised if you’re feeling unable to tolerate conditions that no longer serve. And be prepared for rebellion as you or others attempt to shake loose old habits and behavior.
Uranus goes retrograde in a square to Mercury, which aggravates nervous systems already agitated by Mercury Retrograde. Mercury goes Direct on July 20, but because of the square to Uranus, we’re not likely to feel immediate retrograde relief. The days after Mercury Retrograde ends could be more than a little chaotic, and the adjustment period between Uranus Retrograde and Mercury Direct will take patience. Don’t expect anything—plans or projects, old or new—to run smoothly for at least a week. Consider it the astrological equivalent of shifting gears without a clutch.
The Grand Trine in Water between the Mars/Jupiter conjunction, in Cancer, Saturn, in Scorpio, and Neptune, in Pisces, continues to stimulate deep emotional undercurrents. Mars/Jupiter contacts symbolize dynamic expansion. Add Saturn to the mix, and that desire for success is amplified by a tenacious determination to pursue goals and objectives. Neptune’s presence softens some (but not all) of the rough edges of that ambition. This Grand Trine also stimulates a deep longing for spiritual unity and alignment. Just be aware that the positive power of this trine may be inaccessible to some and that could produce a deep dissatisfaction. Don’t be surprised if you or someone close to you succumbs to resignation or cynicism because the longing to be connected to a greater story seems just out of reach.
As the week unfolds, many of us could grow increasingly testy. Mars slowly joins the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square, and its presence completes a T-Square, a pernicious, stressful interaction that is unpredictable and volatile. Hold fast to compassion as a first choice in the days ahead. And when possible remember the healing power of kindness and extend a hand to your fellow travelers.
